Apple Computers ready for corporate domination
August 8th 2005, 11:08pmDespite the significant advantages of their operating system, corporate IT departments have always had a problem integrating Macs within a Windows network. Finally, Apple have managed to overcome the one obstacle to making it in a Windows environment. Now we can blend in, and conform to the standard M$ have set…

Metropolitan Police Drama on DVD
August 7th 2005, 11:08pmI’m a bit addicted to detective fiction, especially the American stuff, and in television they’ve a fine pedigree with NYPD Blue, Law & Order, Homicide and so forth…
That’s not to say we can’t do it well, and two fine British series are getting DVD releases. The first series of The Bill came out in June and although I didn’t watch it back then I watched later series (before it jumped the shark in 2000) and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all started.
Better still, Between the Lines – Series 1 is out in October. I just happened to come across this while browsing, despite the fact it’s one of the series I’ve been looking for since the medium was invented. Neil Pearson, Tom Georgeson, Siobhan Redmond and the late Tony Doyle are superb in this excellently written series about the CIB…

Make London Safer: Appease Terrorists and Invite Extremists
August 4th 2005, 11:08pmDespite the tone of the title of the post, I must say Ken Livingstone has penned a persuasive article in today’s Guardian on making London safer.
While I don’t buy the argument over Iraq increasing the danger of terrorism, I like the qualification he makes: if the war had been justified it would have been worth the risk. Well I think the attrocities there did justify it. And acknowleding this rather than focusing on the danger is important because it’s so often peddled as a reason not to be in Iraq and the argument is: do what the terrorist want to save ourselves.
Furthermore I can’t find fault with his argument in favour inviting apologists Palestinian suicide bombers… loath though I am to concede this point, the actions of the Israeli government do seem to validate his argument…

Here I Come To Save The Day!
August 3rd 2005, 04:08pmThe Apple Pro mouse was beautiful, simple and only had one button. Its greatest asset was its greatest drawback, and although the design was superb, two buttons and a scrollwheel are too much functionality to give up.
Years of speculation have ended with Mighty Mouse, which preserves the simplicity of the design but exceeds the functionality of even a scroll wheel mouse.
Using technology patented by Apple a while back, not dissimilar to the scroll wheel technology for the iPod, this programmable rodent can do just about anything. Maybe it’s not quite as beautiful as the pro mouse, but this combination of ergonomics, aesthetics and functionality is huge step forward for perhaps the most important part of the human-computer interface.
The only thing holding me back from getting one is the thought there might be a bluetooth version around the corner.

I got BABY FISH!
August 2nd 2005, 04:08pmI’ve not been blogging since I got back from holiday – when I came home my bathroom had been removed, and all the rubbish from my basement was in my bedroom and living room. This is great, in the sense stuff’s happening, but it’s kept me busy. I’ve not really looked at the pond, either.
But since today was the first day it hadn’t rained, I went out past the radiators, rubble and discarded windows and cleared out the pond a bit. And when the sun shone on it, I saw…well, they seemed too small for tadpoles…could they be larvae? Surely the fish would have eaten them.. And then, looking at the way they moved, I realised.
A bit hard to get a photo… they’re only 8 or 9mm head to tail, but it was the best I could do. And the frogs are getting bigger too….it’s all happening, in the pond.
