The thing about the iPhone, right, is that it’s got no zoom. And the thing about seals is they’re rather well camouflaged. So this is not a great pic, but see if you can spot about half a dozen adults and a couple of (rather pixelated) pups. Taken yesterday near Wooltack Point, Pembs.

Blogging on Wooltack
September 27th 2008, 02:09pmI finally got an iPhone. The trauma of its aquisition is still too raw (and I’m still too poor a typist) to relate, so this is a test for the WordPress App, to see if I can post a picture from the phone…
Edit: practising editing and getting used to photo orientation (taking photos with the app isn’t as intuitive as it could be). I notice the iPhone keyboard doesn’t seem to have the thingies for doing HTML…

Sailing
September 21st 2008, 11:09amAfter an unbelievably wet August, two September weekends in a row have provided absolutely stunning Autumn sunshine. Last weekend the conditions would have been perfect for sailing, if there had been any wind.

The photos I took whilst crewing in the Axe Yacht Club’s last river race of 2008 are here on the website for the Axe One Design class. Or at least the photos which feature Axe Ones are (we were sailing a Miracle). Long may this wonderful weather last.
Doctor Who
The Unicorn and the Cornet Player, Part 2
September 20th 2008, 10:09pmThe excellent Musical Motifs in New Who has been updated with all series 4 music including the songs in The Unicorn and the Wasp in which I previously identified the Cryin’ All Day by Frank Ricotti and his All Stars as being heard near the beginning.
However, it is identified on the site as the Beiderbecke version since William Gallagher phoned no less than Alan Plater himself having, like me, identified it as the title track to The Beiderbecke Trilogy and called to get information on the recording.
I am convinced I’m right (naturally), and am investigating the matter further.

Yay! iTunes & MP3 Audiobooks
September 10th 2008, 05:09pmDespite the fact that there was only one feature I claimed I needed in iTunes 8 (which didn’t materialise – it appears the focus is on making playlists less personal rather than more so), I’ve realised there was another feature I wanted even more, and it is there – the ability to mark any file as an audiobook without having to use the make bookmarkable script for AAC files and for the first time being able to get an MP3 into the audiobook library.

iTunes Feature Request
September 3rd 2008, 05:09pm
If there were a single new feature you’d want in iTunes 8, what would it be?
iTunes is mature, stable, and does almost everything I want. One feature request: annotatable playlists. For any playlist, I’d like to be able to add a description of the playlist, and for any track a note as to why I’d included it. It would be easy to implement, I’m sure Apple could make it easy to edit, view and hide. I want it for my own use, but I think a lot of people would value being able to publish this via blogs and/or social networking sites, and Apple could benefit from links back to the iTunes store…
