“Split!” Review

A somewhat routine episode, with a mildly interesting plot concerning a kind of partial mind transfer that is hugely compromised by Who’s Who??? in which a far more sophisticated form of mind transfer was completely successful. It benefits from a strong guest cast that includes Christopher Benjamin (back after How To Succeed… at Murder and Never, Never Say Die) and Julian Glover (Two’s A Crowd, The Living Dead).

We discover that Steed was in Berlin in October 1963. That’s when the third series had just hit the air. Was he out there on his own, or with Cathy? Could be either: there are instances of Cathy travelling abroad with him, and also of him leaving her to work on something while he went away

There are a couple of curiosities in this one – in all the other series 6 episodes so far, with the exception of The Forget-Me-Knot, Steed has driven a yellow Rolls. In this one, he’s back in the green Bentley. Also, on my DVD copy, this opens with the target titles corresponding to those at the end of The Forget-Me-Knot but, curiously, it ends with the card shuffling titles which correspond to the armour and meadows in the other series 6 opening titles…
