I got BABY FISH!

PICT1031.JPG

I’ve not been blogging since I got back from holiday – when I came home my bathroom had been removed, and all the rubbish from my basement was in my bedroom and living room. This is great, in the sense stuff’s happening, but it’s kept me busy. I’ve not really looked at the pond, either.

But since today was the first day it hadn’t rained, I went out past the radiators, rubble and discarded windows and cleared out the pond a bit. And when the sun shone on it, I saw…well, they seemed too small for tadpoles…could they be larvae? Surely the fish would have eaten them.. And then, looking at the way they moved, I realised.

A bit hard to get a photo… they’re only 8 or 9mm head to tail, but it was the best I could do. And the frogs are getting bigger too….it’s all happening, in the pond.

And – how did you get such a good piccie of such little creatures?

  3. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed the proud parents don’t eat the little creatures, sunshine (and I took several photos… that was the least worst, but they will move about and you’ve got to get quite close up!)

  5. Is it definitely a goldfish? Was one of your purchases pregnant when you bought them, or have they been . . . errr . . . shagging?

  6. I’m 99.99% certain they’re goldfish (especially looking at the photo). I don’t think goldfish do “shagging” as such, I believe it’s more like kiss-chase, but I’m no expert… I think it would have had to happen in the pond. As breeding goldfish are very sensitive to environment and diet I’m delighted. I didn’t expect this to happen this year, in the new pond, and I haven’t been feeding them either. I think this means they’re settled in their new home!
